Lifestyle Disease Management through Ayurveda
Health and Wellness » Ayurvedic Treatments » Lifestyle Disease Management through AyurvedaAyurveda believes that there is no separation between body, mind, and consciousness and hence the concept of health must address all these aspects. The best way is to let your body have a natural healing process with a diet and lifestyle that is specific to your needs and in tandem with the cycles of nature. Ayurveda propounds that the human body is composed of Tridoshas – the Vata, Pitta and Kapha and when all these are in equilibrium, the body enjoys perfect.
Principles of Ayurveda:-
As told above, Ayurveda stresses on the balance of three doshas - vata (air), pitta (bile) and kapha (phlegm). Each of them, according to ayurveda, represents divine forces. Treatments in Ayurveda depend on the pattern of energy that varies for every person. Hence, the body types are divided based on these classifications.
- Vata Body Type:- The basic characteristic of this metabolic type is its ability to change i.e. unpredictability or variability-in size, action, shape and mood. The energy of people with this body type vacillates back and forth, their sleeping patterns are erratic, and they seek exhilarating activities. They rarely suffer from inertia but most of them are thin, moody and exuberant. Many of them might be found to be suffering from psychological disorders, including anxiety, nervous disorders, and phobia.
- Pitta Body Type:- People having this metabolic type are rather predictable as compared to the vata type. A person with a dominant pitta body type usually has a normal build, is generally strong, has stamina and endurance, and does not have a fluctuating body weight. It is generally seen that people with this body type are very intelligent, quick-witted, have little patience and a short temper which erupts from time to time
- Kapha body Type:- A person with a dominant kapha metabolic body type is usually relaxed, easy-going and laid-back. However, they have a tendency to be overweight because they have a low metabolism rate and thus the food gets digested slowly. They tend to be lethargic or slow at everything they do, which is completely in contrast to people having the vata body type.
Lifestyle disease management in Ayurveda:-
Ayurveda is deeply rooted in the use of herbs to treat an ill body and most Ayurvedic medicines are prepared from herbs and plants having medicinal properties. Ayurveda follows the concept of Shamana and Shodhana for disease management. Shamana means lessening and it uses methods to alleviate the disease and its symptoms, while Shodhana means purging and its methods aim at the eradication of the root cause of disease.
