Common Types of Bandages Used
- Gauze Pads & Rolls: These bandages are available in the market with different sizes, width and lengths. Gauze bandages have the benefit to hold the wound which is dressed. This helps in making the injured area firm, no matter what body part it is. These bandages are commonly available in the market and are convenient for abrasions and open wounds. They can be used at hospitals and at home too.
- Tri¬an¬gu¬lar Band¬ages: These are band¬ages fol¬ded in tri-angle shape. You can use them as large dressings or to secure the dressing at place. They are also used as a household item like scarf for making a triangular bandage.
- Adhesive Tape: It offers a great support to weakened body joints like ankles or knees. Other than this to provide short term support to joints, this bandage helps in the process of rehabilitation following a sporting or occupational injury. It has a winding spool with adhesive substance which is non-aggravating to the skin. You can apply it directly to the injured area and adapt and stretch to fit specific body contours.
- Tubu¬lar Band¬ages: They are used to support the dress¬ings on fin¬gers or injured joints. They are manufactured with seam¬less tubu-lar fab¬ric. Get elasticized ones for joints like the ankle. You can use them for fin¬gers or toes, but they do not provide any pres¬sure to stop bleeding.
- Roller Bandage: It is made of muslin cloth and is designed to stretch slightly, so as to confirm the shape of the part being bandaged. It comes in different widths from about one-half inch to four inches; the narrower widths are used for fingers and toes. You may also have to use adhesive strips along with this bandage for holding the roller bandage to add support to the injured part like a sprained ankle.
The type of bandages for injury not only depends on the injuries, but also on the place where the injuries has taken place. Suppose injury takes place in some awkward place where to apply bandage like adhesive one can be difficult, then you may need flexible, stretchable shaped bandage. Such types are made of stretchy fabric instead of plastic and are waterproof.
