- Apply a warm compress in case of chest pain due to asthma. Apply it for nearly 30 minutes in every 2 hrs. Avoid lifting anything with the arms during the pain.
- Use inhalers when the first signs of an asthma attack take place. Try to use maximum doses of inhalers. Seek medical attention as soon as possible if the symptoms have not improved.
- Drink plenty of clear liquids, so minimize the attack intensity
- When you are using an inhaler with a spacer fist, remove the cap of the inhaler. Hold it with the mouthpiece at the bottom. Mix the inhaler properly followed by inserting the spacer. Place the mouth around that spacer. Begin deep and slow breath for 5-10 seconds.
- If you are using an inhaler without a spacer, remove the cap of the inhaler and hold the mouthpiece 1.5 inches in front of the mouth. Continue to inhale slowly for 3 - 5 seconds.
- Metered-dose inhalers are well known home instruments to treat asthma. It is very small and hand held which allows you to deliver the medicine directly into your lungs.
- Misty medication is the type of instrument which includes a pressurized canister which emits a fine-powder mist into your mouth to directly reach the lungs.
- Along with all these equipments, Peak Flow Meters are very important instrument which can save your life in complicated situations. This device is specially made to control asthma attacks. It measures daily variation in breathing pattern which can indicate the complications in advance. It is also a hand held machine which is portable.
- Nebulizer is also a well known home equipment used for asthma care. It is prescribed specifically for children which is an electronically operated machine.
