Treating Sleep Disorders with Yoga

Treating sleep disorders with yoga is the best treatment given to the person suffering from sleep apnea. Sleep disorder is a disorder which is characterized by the inability to sleep for a particular period of time. You might do all the possible things to get a sound sleep, but all your efforts go in waste and you are unable to fall asleep.

In today's world with the fast life, most of the people are diagnosed by this sleep disorder. The disorder can be minor or a major one. Depending on the type of disorder, sleep disorder is treated. Yoga deals with the energy of body and mind. Yoga helps to treat the sleeping disorders. In United States, yoga is becoming common and people have started understanding its importance. Still most of them are unaware of practicing yoga and its importance of self-healing art. Now, most of them have started adopting yoga for its numerous benefits. Yoga plays a major role in flexibility of joints and muscles, relaxation, circulation and improved sleep.

Yoga works on the simple principle that the body, mind and spirit work together. If you fall sick, then it can affect your spirit and mind. If your mind is restless, then your spirit and body will too be affected. If your spirit gets depleted, the body and mind will suffer automatically. Yoga is practiced in many forms which are done by stretching your body and some breathing exercises which help to relax your body, mind and spirit.

For treating sleep disorders with yoga, there are several methods that can be used. Yoga helps to lose the tight muscles, release tension and place you in a deep state of relaxation. You need lot of attention while you are practicing yoga to get your mind, body and soul relaxed. The stretching and breathing exercises are followed to slow down the numerable thoughts and take you to the present moment. Practicing yoga helps to flow the stress hormones which are produced by the body when you are under tension and stress. By practicing yoga your mind, body and soul gets relaxed and connected. This is the main reason due to which you will sleep better.

Methods of Yoga

  • You can stand with your feet and shoulder � width apart. Take a deep breath and join your hands together. You should raise your hands above your head and later gently raise your toes. Try to stretch your whole body upward. Now, exhale slowly while you bring your arms back to the sides and also lower your heels to the floor. Repeat this yoga style for two to three times and check the result. This will calm down your body, mind and spirit and give you a good night sleep.
  • Lay down on a bed or floor with your arms near your sides. Move apart your legs slightly and make your body relax by letting it sink into the bed or floor. Breathe in slowly with your nose and take the air deeply in lungs until you feel your abdomen has rose up. Now exhale slowly and be alert to know how your body is feeling as you breathe in and out. You can repeat this with as many breaths as you want and feel your body calming down.
  • You can treat sleep disorder by following some sitting yoga. Sit on a straight backed chair. Sit comfortably with your legs uncrossed and practice the breathing process as mentioned in previous yoga exercises. After you take two to three breaths, rise up your hands above your head and stretch your body as if you are trying to touch the ceiling. Following the breathing process will help you to stretch your body. Be alert and check how your body and mind feels as your breathe. Repeat the steps till you feel relaxed and till you are ready to sleep.
