The rod symbolizes the spine of the human body along with 2 snakes which are tightly rolled with wires or spirals just like wings. Their exact hanging position is at the top. The image is a close illusion of Hermes holding it tightly. It is like an illusion as the snakes are not the real ones but are simply ducts that are structure for giving twists. There are 3 twists which meet half round they meet at the center and after crossing each other, the point is called Sushumna. This position or to be more correct the crossing of the snake like ducts is nothing but a flow of Kundalini energy which is split in 2 parts called as Pingala and Ida. Sanskrit word of Kundalini yoga is Sushumna. The structure is almost similar to the human body from top to bottom from the back which means the spine that is connected to the skull and the lower parts of the body. The spine is protected with the hollow structure. It is considered as a light force. A sort of three channels is also attached within. The two energies named Ida and Pingala have their own meanings. Left side is given to Ida which is structure almost over the nostrils. This is a structure similar to the temperament of women which is said to have negativity or is charged with negative energies. Moon is the cooling agent. At the right side flows the second energy pingala which is almost above the upper position of the nostril which is on the left side. It is the position of the male disposition and said to have positive charge. Here heat is related to the positive powers of the sun.
Yoga Kundalini is considered as a supreme spiritual energy which helps the person in its own ways. The effect is such that both the mind and the body gets in to the center and starts performing properly in their own natural ways.
